Carnal Machines is one of the most unique compilations of erotic stories I’ve read in a long time. The focus of these stories is setting, language, and technology. That is to say, Victorian settings with old style language and machines run on steam and other types of technology relevant to the time frame. I really didn’t know how I would feel about this genre and kind of put off reading it because I was a little worried that I would hate it. That worry was laid to rest quickly after reading the first story. These stories ended up being some of the hottest erotica I’ve read lately.
There are a total of 14 stories, each by a different author. They all ascribe to the theme of the book and contain some pretty inventive devices within the unique stories. The book is a paperback with glossy covers and is a total of 202 pages including the about the authors and editor sections. The stories are a bit longer than other erotica stories, mostly because of the necessity to explain settings, back stories, and the special devices used in the stories.
And now on to my favorites!
Human Powered by Teresa Noelle Roberts: Claire is a widow who has developed a device that uses the energy generated by a person who is sexually frustrated to run electrical devices. She goes to her friend Dr. Benedict Lowell to get assistance with refining the inside machinery. As she is talking to him and she keeps noticing how much he is turning her on and eventually the two of them end up in a rather compromising position. When their sexy tryst, wrestling with petticoats and other trappings of the day, is over they discover that Claire’s device can feed off an all together different type of energy.
Sleight of Hand by Renee Michaels: Cassie has a goal. She has been hired by a man to break into a safe on a train and retrieve something. She has her plan set and in motion when she comes across a challenge she hadn’t anticipated. There’s a man waiting in the train car with the safe, a man she is very familiar with. She discovers that the item she would have ended up retrieving is a sexual device, one that was initially made for her when she was on good terms with this man. She initially wants to get away from him but soon both are convinced of how much they need each other. Marcus uses his device on her and soon she can’t get enough. This theft job ends up changing Cassie’s whole world around.
Deviant Devices by Kannan Feng: Victoria De Clemens has been hired to come please the Commander. She is a prostitute and is hoping to move herself up in the world by finding a wealthy regular. This isn’t like her usual jobs. She is asked to sit on a couch that is a bit different and has some special skills. Mercer, the Commander’s assistant, is there to help Victoria and quickly gets her situated. The couch ends up being genius, a fucking machine that teases and pleases Victoria both vaginally and anally. She is as turned on by the wonders of the machine as she is by Mercer’s reactions to her. She is finally spent and ready for the Commander only to find out that he won’t be coming to her because he’s already been enjoying the show.
Infernal Machine by Elias A. St. James: Elijah has recently acquired a new chair that is mechanized but he isn’t sure what it does. His boyfriend Sasha lives with him but has to leave to go meet his father. While he is gone, Elijah takes a seat in the chair, which has had its water tank partially filled and a fire lit underneath the tank. The chair quickly moves into action securing Elijah’s naked body to it and bringing a cock to his mouth and ass. He is quickly in ecstasy…and then the chair runs out of steam. He is stuck in the chair with no way out, hoping Sasha returns quickly. When Sasha does return, he finds Elijah in the chair and has to figure out how to get him out of the chair without being able to talk to him. Once he gets the chair working, he is astonished at what it can do, but helps himself to Elijah’s hard and exposed cock.
